Important Parent Information and FAQs
What do we need to do the first day of lessons?
Please show up 15-30 minutes early as the registration process can take a few minutes. Balances owed will be due the first day of each session.
Your child will meet the instructor the first day. The instructors’ names will be hung on the wall outside the office/ pool area where you and your child should meet their instructor every day. Instructors will bring swimmers to the indoor pool for their 40 minute lesson and children will be picked up on the outdoor pool deck after their lesson is finished.
What does my child need for lessons?
Children will need a swim suit for swim lessons. Goggles ($10) and swim caps ($5) are optional and we will have them for sale during your swim lesson session.
Helpful hints: Come early to go to the bathroom, apply sunscreen, and make sure your swimmer is ready for their lesson. Little girls with long hair should have their hair pulled back into a pony tail to keep hair out of their eyes while they swim
Can we purchase additional Crawfish Aquatics swim lessons t-shirts?
Yes, every swimmer will receive a CA swim lessons t-shirt with every session they attend, but additional t-shirts can be purchased for $10.
What do parents do while the children are in their lesson?
Parents are not allowed on the pool deck during lesson time.
-If you are staying on-site, you are welcome to sit at the picnic tables near the office, under the pavilion, or in the covered seating area behind the indoor pool.
What options are there for siblings?
The Splash Pool will be open every day (weather permitting) for children in lessons and siblings not in lessons. Any children in the splash pool MUST be supervised by a parent who is also inside the Slash Pool Fence. Guards are not responsible for watching the splash pool. We ask that swimmers NOT play in the Slash Pool before lessons and stay no later than 15 min after lessons to prevent overcrowding.
Why are parents not allowed on the pool deck during lessons?
Our goal is for the swimmers to focus all their attention on the instructor during their lesson time. Parents are encouraged to allow their child the learning opportunities that come with group lessons: self-regulation to pay attention to the task at hand, successes and failures, and adapting to the learning environment. Allowing your child to receive direction from the instructor alone during the practice session will help build independence and confidence in your young athlete! When are parents allowed to watch the lesson?
Parents are allowed to watch the entire last class of the session.
What do we do for the last day/graduation day?
Family and friends are invited to come watch the last day of the swim lesson session. You will get to see what your child has learned in their lessons so you can continue to work with them to help improve their swimming. There will be plenty of opportunity to take pictures, video and cheer for your favorite little swimmer as they demonstrate their new skills! Each child will receive a graduation certificate.
When/where do parents pick up their children?
Parents can pick up their children on the outdoor pool deck. The instructor will spend a short time with you to let you know what your child did in their lesson that day. The class if 40 minutes long. Our instructors have duties to attend to between classes, please be prompt in picking up your child, classes end on the :10 of every hour! If you are late, you may be responsible for an after care fee determined by the amount of time you are late!
Are lessons canceled if it rains?
No! All lessons classes are held primarily inside, so we do not cancel for rain.
My child missed a class, do you offer makeups?
We do not offer make up classes or a change in class time once you have started the lesson session. We have specific instructor to swimmer ratios in place to ensure all children are safe and receive the same amount of instruction. To move even one child can upset these ratios.
What do I need to know about parking and the parking lot?
Parking is available in our Crawfish Aquatics parking lot and on Crawfish Aquatic's side of Susan Street. Overflow parking is allowed in Lafayette High parking lot on Foreman Dr. NO PARKING ALLOWED ON THE LAFAYETTE HIGH SIDE OF SUSAN STREET. YOU WILL BE TICKETED.
Do not drop your child off in the parking lot or near the gate. Please walk your kids into the facility. The gate area must be kept clear for cars making the turn into the parking lot and onto Susan Street.
Please drive SLOWLY and CAREFULLY in the parking lot and watch for children exiting the facility!
How can I help prepare my child for their lessons?
Some children can be anxious on the first day of lessons, before coming to the pool or when they realize they will be separated from their parents. Please know we are prepared to lovingly encourage your child and help them get over their fears to learn to love the water and swimming. Never get upset with your child if they are nervous. Speak positive and encouraging words to them and praise them for their efforts. The quicker we can get them into the pool, the quicker they will calm down. Many go from tears to joy in the same day!
